a serious man

just look at that parking lot...

it's the late sixties, larry gopnik (michael stuhlbarg) is a professor in the mid-west. his wife, judith (sari lennick), is going to leave him, he's getting hassle from a mail order company, his job is looking a little unsteady and his brother, arthur (richard kind), has been staying a while and isn't making much effort to leave. in such times of crisis, larry turns to his local rabbis, seeking advice...

another little gem from the brothers coen. a black comedy focussing on the amiable, job-like, larry, to whom bad things are inexplicably happening, one after the other. exactly the great depth, pacing, script, characters and performances you should expect from the coens. and, a film that made me want to watch it again, as soon as the end credits started rolling...

i didn't, though...

still, great stuff.

the film is currently on general release.
