anvil! the story of anvil

slammer with a hammer...

'anvil', in case like me you didn't know, are a heavy rock band who, during the mid-eighties, were once riding the crest of a long haired, tight jeans wearing wave, along with the likes of bon jovi, scorpions and whitesnake. somehow, they just kind fucked things up and disappeared into obscurity, whilst their contemporaries went on to sell millions of records.

this film documents the band; singer / guitarist steve and drummer robb, as they go about their daily lives - a driver and a construction worker, respectively, until they get the chance to go on tour in europe. maybe anvil's story isn't over...

to be honest, i had no idea who these guys were. i'd never heard of them and the talking heads who pop up at the start of the film to introduce them, did little to make me think that they were real; i guess that lemmy, slash, lars ulrich et al just talk as if they are really bad actors...

as a result, i watched it thinking that it was a mockumentary. i thought it was okay. i thought there were some interesting fun ideas and the guys playing steve and robb did a pretty good job.

because of this misinterpretation, i don't think i'm really at liberty to say much more about the film. it was okay. i kinda enjoyed it. i chuckled a couple of times.

err... that's it... move on...

the dvd is £6.99 from play.com
